If you are looking for ways to keep your smile beautiful and healthy, remember your oral hygiene basics. Brushing your teeth goes a long way to keeping your smile healthy. Drs. Huang and Huang understand the importance of brushing your teeth and is happy to share some insight with you.
Bacteria can develop in your mouth as you eat, talk and even drink your favorite drinks. Food particles and other bacteria form a unique substance in your mouth called plaque that sticks stubbornly to your teeth. As time goes by, plaque will slowly but surely eat away at your teeth. Each tooth in your mouth is made up of a substance called tooth enamel, which plaque feeds on until it hardens into tartar, forms cavities, and ushers in gum disease. When left alone, plaque can destroy your teeth or result in tooth loss, gum disease and even loss of bone in your jaw.
Brushing your teeth can defend your smile from the hazard of plaque and other bacteria that reside in your smile. By brushing your teeth at minimum twice a day with a soft-bristled toothbrush, you can keep your teeth safe and fight off gum disease. It is also essential to remember to replace your toothbrush every three or four months at the very least. This is because bacteria nests in your toothbrush and as the bristles become worn or old, they won’t clean your teeth as well.
